South Phoenix Mine, Minions

The South Phoenix Mine operated in the 19th and early 20th century. Houseman's Pumping Engine House, now converted to be the Minions Visitor Centre, is the only remaining substantial structure. There are, however, remains of dressing floors, settling tanks, buddles, reservoirs and shafts. There also concrete footings (not pictured) from the early 20th century reworking.

/11 Houseman's Pumping Engine House formerly of the South Phoenix mine, but now the Minions Visitor Centre
/11 Looking down at a series of terraces which would have been the processing floors for the mine. The ore would have been sorted from the ore bearing rock on the pictured 'floors'
/11 Settling tanks for ore seperation. Processing used considerable quantities of water.
/11 Another settling tank.
/11 A not very clear feature which would once have been a buddle: a water and gravity dependent ore processing feature.
/11 The concrete collar of Parsons Incline Shaft. The shaft has recently been stablised.
/11 A former reservoir. Ore processing and steam powered mines required a lot of water.
/11 Another view of the former reservoir"
/11 Higher up the slope is another former reservoir.
/11 Don't know what this feature is but I'd be pleased to find out.
/11 Prosper Shaft, choked with trees and with concrete supports for a hopper. Part of the early 20th century reworking of the South Phoenix Mine.
